How it works

Five steps from application to offer.

We run three cohorts a year. Every engineer goes through the same rigorous pipeline — no shortcuts, no exceptions. Companies meet candidates only after they've cleared every bar.

01 STEP

Tell us your story.

Apply · 20 min
A short written application: your background, a code sample, and the role you want. English + Portuguese accepted.

02 STEP

Technical + language screens.

Screen · 1 week
A live pairing session with a senior engineer, and a structured English interview. We score on reasoning — not trivia.

03 STEP

Cohort offer + match call.

Offer · 2 weeks
The top 1.8% receive a cohort offer. You meet 3 partner companies aligned with your stack and career stage.

04 STEP

Interview rounds.

Interviews · 1–2 weeks
We coordinate and prep you for every round — technical and cultural. You show up; we handle the logistics.

05 STEP

Offer. Ship from day one.

Ship · Day 1
Accept your offer and start working remotely with your partner company. Median offer: USD $85K–$120K.

Two sides, one shared standard.

For companies

For engineers

Pre-vetted at 1.8% rate.

Every engineer clears a live pairing round, systems design, and a written async task before you meet them.

Time-zone aligned.

Brazil sits close to EST and 4 hours off PST. Real overlap, real pairing, real standups — no late-night handoffs.

English-fluent, async-literate.

Every candidate passes a structured English evaluation and a written-communication task. No translation debt.

A fee you can afford.

Just a percentage of salary.

Remote-ready candidates.

Every engineer is set up to work asynchronously, overlap EST/PST hours, and ship independently from day one.

Curated shortlists, not a dump.

You receive 3–5 candidates per role, ranked. No screening fatigue; no cold inboxes.

Teams who hired. Engineers who shipped.

A few words from founders, hiring managers, and alumni across the cohorts.

We went from 'we can't find senior Elixir people' to a team of four in one cohort. The bar is absurdly high.

I was in São Paulo on a Tuesday and shipping to production by the end of my first month. The match was precise — they knew exactly what I wanted and what the team needed.

Things we're often asked.

Who is Code in Canada for?

Two audiences. Brazilian engineers with 3+ years of experience who want to work with North American companies — remotely, from Brazil. And North American companies hiring senior engineers who need time-zone aligned, English-fluent talent. We match them through a rigorous cohort-based process.

What roles do you place?

Backend, full-stack, mobile, infrastructure/SRE, data engineering, and ML engineering. We occasionally place design engineers and engineering managers. We don't currently place non-engineering roles.

How much does it cost companies?

[EXPIRED]. Founding-member companies (the first 50) pay zero placement fees for their first three hires. After that, it's a one-time flat fee — no percentage of salary.

Do engineers pay anything?

No. The process is entirely free for engineers. You apply, we screen, we match you — and you keep 100% of your offer.

How does remote work with a North American company work legally?

Most placements are structured as contractor or employer-of-record (EOR) arrangements, which require no visa or relocation. We advise on the right structure for your situation and your partner company's jurisdiction.

Do engineers need to relocate?

No. Engineers work remotely from Brazil. The cohort model means you're matched alongside other vetted engineers, and companies know what to expect — but there's no physical move required.

What's the application timeline?

From application to offer: roughly 6–10 weeks. We run three cohorts a year — currently June, October, and February. Engineers in the cohort are presented to partner companies over a 2-week match window.
